RED drops prices

For the first time since Jim Jannard founded RED in 2006 prices are going South for once instead of North where I live. When RED first announced the RED ONE digital 4k cinema camera they were made available for an outstanding price of only $17,500 USD. This price later increased to $25,000 once they started including the MX sensor in all newly manufactured RED ONE cameras.

Earlier this month on October 26th Jannard announced that RED was ready to lower prices on EPIC due to becoming much more efficient in the process of making EPICs. Many however speculated this was somehow linked to the announcement of Sony’s new CineAlta line of F cameras – the Sony F5 and F55 HD/4k RAW capable cameras.

So prior to November 1st 2012 here’s a look at EPIC package prices:

And now:

5K EPIC-X Brain- $19,000
5K EPIC-X Monochrome Brain- $20,000
5K EPIC-M Brain- $24,000
5K/4K Scarlet Brain- $7,950

One things is for sure, there’s never been a better time to be a filmmaker or own a RED camera!
