Dennis Hingsberg is an award winning film Producer and Cinematographer living in Toronto, Canada, and founder of the production company StarCentral Productions – a video & film production company specializing in full production and post production services for 35mm cinematic film-style TV commercial spots, narrative films, music videos and corporate spots.
Dennis has been making films and working with the 35mm digital format since 2003 and earned dozens of “Official Selections” to film festivals across Canada, USA, and Europe for his work in narrative including; The Canada International Film Festival, Canadian Film Festival, Blood In The Snow Film Festival, The Kingston Film Festival, Indie Horror Film Festival, International Vampire Film And Arts Festival, Toronto Independent Film Festival, Mississauga Independent Film Festival… and more.
In 2007 he proudly won an award for Best Cinematography on the short sci-fi film THE 23RD DOORWAY Written and Directed by Brendan Farell – a film shot with a 35mm adapter on the video format competing against other films shot on 35mm film. He has always strived for a high level of cinematic quality in all of his work and his passion and devotion to his work is present in all projects that he works on.
More recently between 2014 and 2016 two films he produced and worked as the cinematographer won 4 awards in Canada and the United States. THE UNFORGETTABLE MISTAKE Written and Directed by Sean Robinson won the RISING STAR AWARD at the 2014 Canadian International Film Festival, and UNCOMMON ENEMIES Written and Directed by Alex Hatz won BEST WRITER & BEST SPECIAL FX at the 2016 Indie Horror Film Festival during it’s U.S. premiere, and in 2014 BEST SHORT FILM at the Little Nightmares Horror Short Film Festival.
UNCOMMON ENEMIES, budgeted at $10,000 had is world premiere in Toronto at the 2014 Canada Film Festival and was also featured by the National Screening Institute of Canada earlier in the year. The film stars Michael Cram (Flashpoint) and Melanie Scrofano (Saw VI, Manson) with Special Effects work by Steven Dawley (Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Silent Hill). Visual Effects by Kirk Brillon (Game of Thrones, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2).
Working with the CineAlta line of Sony cameras since 2010, Dennis has gained a strong online presence helping to educate camera operators as well as consulting ASC’s & CSC’s in both technical and creative aspects of using the F3/F5/F55 cameras to maximize image quality. Dennis is active in the online community and has articles published on various websites. Amongst his most acknowledged posts are detailed explanations and guides on exposure techniques, transcoding XAVC codecs, and advanced round-trip color grading process with Davinci Resolve.
